Airbrushing True Fire Flames -- How to Instructions

The basic technique for airbrushing True Fire Realistic Flames is to paint the flames in white on a black or very dark background and then use candy colors or transparent colors over the white. Generally red, yellow, and sometimes orange airbrush paints are used. This process is repeated in smaller and tighter subsequent layers to produce the 3-D effect. More specifically you want to use photos of actual flames as your guide to the actual shapes you make with the white. You definitely need to notice that real flames have really weird shapes as opposed to traditional, stylized hot rod flames.

Focus on the whippy shapes and the fogging and shading of flames. To get the fogging effect of true flames one uses the templates. You will see how actual real flames taper off inwards. They have some soft edges and some sharp edges and the sharp edges bleed off or fog out. Additionally you will notice in photos of real fire that flame have whipping curving lines within them as well.

Some guys start their first layer using red -- usually transparent red. Others lay down the first layer or to in white and use candy red over. After that you build up layer in white painting candy orange over each white layer and make each new layer tighter. Some people will use candy yellow on the top layer or two. The problem is that yellow is dangerous on, next to, or near black because the combination easily looks green.

You will realize that you didn't need an expensive video at all or expensive templates that we are giving you here for free -- see our True Fire Realistic Flames Freehand Tools Stencils and Templates Page.
